The release of Koha 3 is not a new story and its popularity among the librarians of the world is increasing day by day due to its powerful framework, stability, ease of use and the flexibility to customize the different modules.
But according to our observation and discussion with professional librarians at Islamabad/Lahore, Pakistani librarians are hesitating to use it due to the following reasons:
- Its Windows version is not available
- Most of librarians are not trained to run Linux or Linux-based softwares
Salman Humdullah, BCS final semester student at FAST National University, Lahore is a very talented student. He developed a world class Inpage to Unicode Converter during his vacations after the exams of Intermediate in late 2003 when he was only 18 years old.

Web 2.0 has opened a new horizon in the field of Library and Information Science and it leads librarian to Library 2.0
According to Wikipedia, “Library 2.0 is a loosely defined model for a modernized form of library service that reflects a transition within the library world in the way that services are delivered to users…. ”
Implementation of library services using Web 2.0 has many aspects i.e. Wikis, Blogs, Social Networking, Forums, etc.
Doesn’t that headline just put a smile on your face? You’re not the only one. It’s great to see that the significant human effort augmented by billions of dollars invested in Pakistan’s IT infrastructure and skill-development are bearing tangible fruit.
